Location
One of 74 islands in the Coral Sea, Hamilton is the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, and is positioned nearly halfway between the coastline of Brisbane and Cairns. Here, you’ll experience everything that is great about Australia – beautiful natural surrounds, calm waters, secluded beaches, warm weather, fascinating coral reefs and diverse flora and fauna.
There’s also a local population on Hamilton Island, and around 1,000 people live here permanently - giving the island a very warm and authentic feel.
Things to do
As well as golf, there are more than 60 fantastic activities available on Hamilton Island, ranging from mini golf and an aquatic diving range, to bushwalking, sunset kayaking, diving and snorkelling. Daily tours to the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands also operate from Hamilton Island and can be organised via the Hamilton Island Tour Desk.
The island also hosts a whole selection of events and programs throughout the year - ranging from sporting carnivals, to performances by the Australian Ballet.
Easy to get to
Hamilton Island is the only island in the Great Barrier Reef with its own airport, and flights arrive daily via Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns.
